Chattanooga, TN and Ruby Falls

10.23.2023

Harrison Bay State Park

We can’t say enough positive things about the service at Safe T Plus.  While the rig was being worked on we had a comfortable place to sit and relax and Comet was welcome.  Once the bar was installed a tech went on a test drive with Kenny and had him stop twice to make adjustments.  We then headed out to Chattanooga.

Thankfully we stayed well west of Atlanta and the crazy traffic there.  The drive was an easy one.  We got to our campground early and were allowed to check-in.  We had a reserved site but it wasn’t level so the very nice and patient lady working in the campground office helped us to relocate to an even better site with an amazing view of the bay and the Fall color beyond.

Our destination for the evening was Ruby Falls which is a classic 1940’s tourist attraction.  The entrance is on Lookout Mountain.  The views are very pretty.

The highlight of which is a 90 waterfall inside of a cave.  After descending 260 feet by elevator we were guided through the cave by our tour guide.  After watching a brief movie we walked by many lighted formations to reach the room where the waterfall flows.  While very touristy it was a fun visit.

Once we emerged from the depths of Lookout Mountain we had a beautiful view of the sparkling lights below us.

Picking Up the Trail

 10.28 and 29.2023

Tallapoosa, GA

After several weeks of many moving parts, saying goodbye to Aunt Mary, and flying to Waco we are back in the RV together.  We are finishing up what would have been the last week and a half of our grand adventure.  We had two significant driving days to make it to GA where we are getting an anti-sway bar on the RV to help reduce the impact of trucks passing us on the highway.  We made the journey in two days staying last night in Gastonia, NC at Cavendish Brewing Company.  We enjoyed their beer and pizza and then slept in our RV in their gravel lot.

After sleeping in a bit we hit the road again.  The drive was long but uneventful.  We made it to the SafeTPlus facility where we have water and electric which is a pleasant surprise.  Our appointment is at 8:00 tomorrow.   So, we are spending the evening watching football and having dinner in our rig.  Hopefully, the installation will go smoothly!

Tomorrow we journey to Harrison Bay State Park near Chattanooga.

Chip and Jo Kind of Day

10.20.2023

Waco, Texas

We slowed down a bit today.  We started by doing a self-drive tour of Fixer Upper Projects.  We knew we were on the right track as we kept seeing a tour van at our stops.

The Little Shop on Bosque

German Schmere House

Mid Century Modern

Hillcrest Estate

Clint’s House

The Castle

After a bit of Googling we drove to Homestead Cafe.  It is an interesting place.  The food was good but the service was sub par.  Afterwards we walked around the craft village that surrounds the farm to table restaurant.  Homestead Heritage is an intentional Christian community.  The people were very friendly and the crafts were beautiful.  In many shops you could make your own items.  Creating would have been fun if we’d had more time.

This building was moved from New Jersey.  It originally was on the farm of the man in the bow of the boat in the painting of Washington crossing the Delaware.

After a bit more shopping and some chill out time we attended An Evening with Chip and Jo at The Silos.  It was fun to see the place lit up at night.  The Gaines are very down to earth and inspirational.

It has been an amazing trip.  I enjoyed reconnecting with old friends!  Once again I find myself in record setting heat so I’m happy to fly home tomorrow to enjoy a bit of Fall!
