Battle of Little Big Horn Monument and Bozeman, MT

 9.9.2023

Bozeman, MT

Mileage: 3339

Tonight we are in Montana, our 14th state for this trip.

We have RV'd in 23 states so far.  I updated the map today.

Today was a pretty long drive day for us.  We added two unexpected stops: The Battle of Little Big Horn Monument and we got the RV washed.

The Battle of Little Big Horn National Monument

As we were driving today we noticed signs for The Battle of Little Big Horn (aka Custer's Last Stand).  We hadn't planned to stop, honestly, it wasn't even on our radar.  Since it was Saturday and we couldn't be early to our next campground we stopped.   I learned a lot about the battle and the tragic loss of life here.  It also confirmed what horrible things we did to the Native People who were already here.  This battle was used as a catalyst by congress to break even more treaties with Indians.

There were many prayer cloths tied in this bush.

There are markers where those who perished fell.  Red stones are for Indians.  White for US Army.

This monument marks the spot where Custer and his party died.  It is engraved with the names of all who perished here.

In the 1990's a monument was added for the Native People who fell here.

There is also a cemetery here where any US Serviceman can be buried, much like Arlington Cemetery.

After another stop to get the rig washed we made our way to The Bozeman Hot Springs and Campground.  There are many natural pools here varying from 56 to 108 degrees.  We enjoyed several pools of different temperatures before taking the short walk back to the RV to sleep.

Comet thought he would help out with the blog today.
