We Arrived in Las Vegas

 9.22.2023 and 9.23.2023

Cracker Barrel, St. George, Utah

Oasis RV Resort, Las Vegas, Nevada

Mileage: 4407

Our longest stay of the entire trip will be this week in Las Vegas.  Kenny is here for work which will give us time to regroup.  Comet is getting groomed, the truck is going in for service, haircuts for both of us, and a good clean of the RV to get ready for the second half of the trip will all be happening.  We are both ready for a bit of a slower pace for a few days.  We've been to Vegas before and the glittery lights and big crowds aren't exactly our thing, so we will see how much we can do on a lower scale while still dipping our toe into the local culture a bit.

The drive south was uneventful.  Honestly, it was hard to drive by the many brown signs telling us to get off to visit so many national and state parks.  We had to console ourselves with the promise that we will be back, and the knowledge that we can't do everything in one trip.  The drive from St. George, Utah through a corner of Arizona to Nevada was a dramatic one with tall cliffs, steep grades, and beautiful colors which gave way to open desert.  Yeah, we will be back when we have time to do all of the beautiful places due time for a proper visit.

Before we left St. George we visited Red Hills Garden.  It is a beautiful place with paths through many different species of plants, a wandering stream, and fun paths that wound through.  There was a piece of rock with dinosaur tracks which was fun to see.  We then took the short scenic drive and wished we had time to do some of the short hikes available along the way.  Alas, we had to continue our journey south.

Interstate 15 south dips into Arizona a bit (state 16)

before going into Nevada (state 17).

After checking in to the Oasis RV Resort we enjoyed dinner with Mick and Peg Geffinger.  Mick worked for many years with Kenny.  We so enjoyed the company, an amazing dinner, and seeing their beautiful home.  Comet made some new friends and enjoyed being off leash for a while.

I'm not sure how often I'll blog this week.  Cleaning and chores aren't quite as exciting as geysers and fumaroles!
