Mileage: 1021
Rockford, IL
The drive today was intentionally west of Chicago and it's suburbs. This was the most remote drive we have had so far with miles of corn fields on both sides of the road for the majority of the time. The road was flat and straight. It was nice to finally have an easy drive.
We left our Harvest Host from last night, Alto Vineyards in Champaign and drove to Rockford, IL and our campground for the night, Blackhawk Valley Campground. Along the way we passed Le Roy, IL. How Dad (Leroy was Dad's name) would have loved a road trip like this! Blackhawk Valley Campground is a beautiful place with many seasonal sites that was bought out today (we got a call this morning). by a conglomerate. I certainly hope this lovely place retains it's charm.
While Kenny worked I went to Anderson Japanese Gardens. It is a beautiful garden with many winding paths and a brook running through it. Two ponds house some of the biggest koi I have ever seen. There were several man made waterfalls and many garden rooms and views to enjoy. It was well worth the 2 hour stop.
And . . . if you scrolled all the way to the end here is a cute picture of Comet chillin' in my chair while am creating this blog.
