Downtown Rapid City

 9.4.2023

Rapid City, SD

Mileage: Still here :)

Rapid City has a cute downtown.  It has lots of restaurants and shops.  Many were closed for Labor Day.  We did find a few open to browse and a great Mexican restaurant for lunch.  What really drew us into town were the Presidents.  On each street corner in the downtown area stands a bronze statue of a former President of the United States.  We had fun taking pictures and trying to identify each as we came to it.  There are three statues missing.  The last two haven't been created yet and one is missing due to construction.

Notice the cane behind the podium for FDR.

Taft threw out many first pitches for the Washington Senators.  It is hard to see in the picture, but he has a baseball gripped in his hand behind his back ready to throw.

We had fun with James Madison so we could send pictures to our JMU grads.

There is also a lovely park with a huge splash pad.

Finally had my margarita to celebrate the life of Jimmy Buffet.

A wicked cold front came through.  Luckily, it was short for us with hail and high winds.  It was not a big deal here, but areas not far from here were hit much harder.  We planned on going to the lighting ceremony at Mt. Rushmore, but that will have to wait until another night.

We stayed home with Comet.  Who was not impressed.
