Dallas/Fort Worth and a Bit of Waco

 10.17.2023

I gotta be honest restarting the trip in any form is a bit weird as Aunt Mary was who I thought of as my audience for the blog.  She wasn’t on Facebook so this was a way for her to follow along.  So, my voice might be a bit off, but here goes nothing!

Kenny and I spent the night in a hotel near BWI before he dropped me off at 4:30 for a flight to Love Field in Dallas.  I picked-up a rental car and started out.  After driving through an amazing neighborhood I arrived on the campus of SMU at the Bush Presidential Library.

I enjoyed touring the library.  It is beautifully curated and tells the story of his presidency well.  It was a bit eerie to relive 911 and the aftermath through the lens of the President.  I especially enjoyed the Oval Office and seeing the family aspects.

After lunch and shopping for a few items at Target I was off to Fort Worth.  I though about trying to make the 4 o’clock cattle drive, but since that is something Kenny really wants to do I didn’t want to experience it without him so I opted for the Fort Worth Water Garden instead.

Then for the real reason for the journey to Fort Worth!  A whole career ago I started teaching in a brand new school in Herndon, VA with some of the finest teachers and greatest people ever.  I met up with three of them for a fun evening of catching up.  We were treated to a great dinner at Joe T Garcia’s, a tour of the hot spots in Forth Worth, and finished off with wine and conversation.

Thanks to Tracy and David Mathewson for hosting us in their beautiful home! I enjoyed reconnecting!
