Beautiful (and a Little Scary) Nature

 2.3 and 4.2024

Big Pine Key RV Resort

RV Mileage: 1506

The last couple of days we have chilled and spent some time enjoying a bit of nature, chatting with our neighbors, and listening to live music at the resort.  We went to a local Farmer's Market and got some yummy cheese and Mediterranean food.  We also went searching for Key Deer and took a walk on a local nature trail.

Somedays I'm glad Comet gets me up early.  Yesterday was a prime example of why.  As we took our morning walk this was our view.  My favorite picture is first, but they were all so pretty I included the whole group.

Then this was the view from the pool deck last night at sunset.

It was definitely the calm before the storm.

This morning was full of wind, rain, and multiple tornado watches.  Thankfully, there were no actual tornados, just lots of wind and rain.  After the storm passed we drove to No Name Key in search of Key Deer.

We saw this guy along the road.

I took a short walk along this trail and met a couple looking for Tree Snails.  They pointed one out to me.  It is just to the right of the top twig on the closest tree.  It looks much like the other white spots on the tree.

These babies were so cute!!

Ironically, we saw more Key Deer in the neighborhood near the reserve than in the actual reserve.  I guess Key Deer can't read maps.

We then stopped at Blue Hole which is an old quarry that has filled with water.

Our last stop of the day was at the trailhead for the Watson and Mannillo Trails. The Watson Trail goes through pine rock land, freshwater wetland, and hardwood hammock.  We always enjoy a nice walk through nature.  And I have to admit that the rattlesnake and crocodile signs caught my attention!  Kenny and I are enjoying the slower pace of Big Pine Key as opposed to Key West where we stayed last year.
