Ft. Myers, FL
Tonight we met Virginia friends in Florida. Steve Davidson is here visiting his mom, and Scott Fogelberg is here for work. So, we met for a yummy dinner at Doc Ford's Rum Bar and Grill. The food was great with even better conversation and a few beverages (not for me I was DD). Such a fun night!!
When we were here last year I came to the restaurant next to this one. It was shortly after Ian and this place was still closed and parking was mostly blocked off because of boats in places boats shouldn't be. It is great to see things so much closer to normal a year later!
We made two stops on our way to dinner.
Manatee Park was the first. Manatees must have water that is 68 degrees or higher to survive. The water in this park is warm because of a nearby power plant. We enjoyed seeing several of the gentle giants and listening to a presentation by a volunteer who was a former teacher.
These are resurrection ferns. They look like this when there has been rain recently. Otherwise they are wilted, droopy and brown.
There were several beautiful Live Oaks in the park. This one is estimated to be over 350 years old.
I suggested visiting a shopping district, but Kenny wanted to go to
Six Mile Slough. This is a county park with a raised boardwalk trail about a mile and a half long. Turns out Kenny's suggestion was much better!
We enjoyed seeing the Bald Cyprus.
Lots of air plants.

See the snake in the middle?

The pond below was full of fish and turtles and an alligator.
The log first had many turtles.
Then an alligator decided he wanted to sun himself on it and the turtles jumped into the water.

This tree grew into the shelter and then was cut away. I'm sure there is more of a story here.
It was a great day!
