Well, Sometimes You Just Have Too: Winslow, Arizona

 10.2.2023

Flagstaff Arizona

Mileage: only the truck

While Kenny Worked Today I drove the 14 miles of The Mother Road, Route 66 that run through Flagstaff.  It is basically a suburban road here with street signs, a few older hotels, and other regular businesses.  It kind of reminds me of Route 1 in Fairfax County; not much to write home about.

While Kenny was with me we debated on going south to Sedona for sunset or going east to Winslow.  Winslow won out, so we checked that box.  We started at Homolovi State Park where there are Hopi ruins dated between 1200 and 1450.  There are trails that go through the ruins and a few have been excavated.  Honestly, it was a bit underwhelming.

While driving through the park we saw a couple of donkeys.

The corner of Winslow, Arizona was the real reason for the drive.  It too is on Route 66.

We made it to the corner.  We were joined by several others who were also there to see the attraction.  Other than this one corner there isn't much going on in the town.  Maybe there was more happening in the early 1970's?

Tomorrow we are off to Phoenix!
